The Guardians defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday night 5-4, winning the series against them, and will now go for the sweep on Thursday.

It was their first regular series win against the Yankees in New York since 2021, when they were still the Indians.

The Guards took Yankees Starter Garrett Cole deep 3 times, and put up 4 runs off him in total.

The Guardians got things going with a Kyle Manzardo solo shot in the second inning to make it 1-0. It was Manzardo’s 7th homer of the season and his second in as many games.

After giving up a game tying homer from Jazz Chisholm, Cleveland immediately punched back with a 2-run bomb off the bat of Rhys Hoskins, who had a fine night at the plate, with 2 hits, including the homer, and 3 total RBIs.

Jose Ramirez stayed hot, crushing a huge homer in the 6th to make it 4-2 Guardians at the time. It was Jose’s 9th homer on the year, and he now has 6 hits in the last two games.

Jose has now bumped his batting average up to .245, and he will be back to normal, hitting over .270 by the end of June.

Jose is really heating up, starting to look like himself, and starting to get some hard hit balls to drop and find holes, which wasn’t happening all year so far.

Gavin Williams was solid, going 5.1 innings, getting the win, picking up 6 strikeouts as well.

Williams is now (9-3) on the season, with an ERA of 3.20.

The Guardians are back at it on Thursday afternoon, and will go for the sweep at 1:35 PM.

Slade Cecconi will get the start on the mound, looking to continue his solid stretch of pitching, and pick up his 4th win on the season.

Cleveland looks for their first sweep against the Yankees in New York since 2017, back when they swept the Yankees during that historic 22 game winning streak.
