The Guardians put the smack down on the Athletics on Saturday afternoon, defeating them 14–6 in what was just an absolutely brilliant performance by this Cleveland offense.

The Guardians actually found themselves down 3-1 in this game going into the 5th inning, but then the Guardians exploded for 4 runs to take the lead thanks to a Steven Kwan RBI single and a Jose Ramirez 2-runs double to put the Guardians on top 4-3.

Jose also snagged his 300th career stolen base in this game.

Rhys Hoskins picked up yet another RBI in this series, with a sac fly after the Jose double to make it a 5-3 game.

In the top of the 6th, David Fry, who has struggled so far this season tremendously, and has never been the same player since his injury after the 2024 postseason, extended the Guardians’ lead to 6-4 with a solo shot. It is his 2nd homer of the season and it’s a sight for sore eyes to see Fry elevate a pitch over the wall.

With the bases loaded in the 7th with 2 outs in a 7-5 game, Rookie Travis Bazzana came through, shooting a ground ball base hit up the middle to drive in two runs. It was Bazzana’s first MLB career hit and boy was it a big one. Now that he has finally gotten his first career hit under his belt, hopefully the kid settles down a little and sees some more production and success at the plate in future at-bats.

Cleveland tacked on more runs in top of the 8th, with a Kyle Manzardo pinch hit 3-run home run off the bench to put the game away 12-5. It is only Manzardo’s second homer of the season, and Cleveland hopes this is the turning point for Manzardo on the season, hoping he can get back to his 2025 self where he hit 27 homers with 70 RBIs.

The player of the game was hands down Austin Hedges, who had 3 hits on the day, all extra bases, with a HR in the 3rd to put the Guards on the board, and a pair of doubles. It is Hedges first 3 hit game since 2019 back when he played in San Diego.

Austin also had a great game defensively, picking off the A’s OF Lawrence Butler at first with runners on the corners, with the A’s threatening in a 6-5 game at the time. This killed the A’s momentum and flipped it to the Guardians, where they scored 8 more Runs after this.

Slade Cecconi finally got his first win of the season despite not having a good outing in the slightest, giving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. I guess that can happen when your offense supports you with 14 runs.

The Guardians are back at it on Sunday at 4:05 PM with LHP Parker Messick on the mound. The Guards will go for the sweep before heading to Kansas City for a 4-game series with the Royals, whom they took 2 out of 3 earlier in April.
