The Guardians walked into Sacramento for game 1 of their 3 game series with the scrappy young Athletics, looking to build off their big win on Wednesday vs the Rays.
For the last 3 games against the Rays, the Guardians have struggled on offense, only putting together 5 runs in 3 games, and needed to get the bats going as soon as possible if they wanted a chance to take the series against this Athletics team who swing the bats pretty well.
Cleveland came out in game 1 swinging, scoring 8 runs on 11 hits.
Chase DeLauter and Rhys Hoskins were the stars of the show, with DeLauter going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs including a game tying 2-run double in the 2nd.

DeLauter is now hitting .286 on the season with 20 RBIs, which is the most on the team.
Rhys Hoskins contributed with 3 RBIs of his own, coming from a 2-run double in the 5th that tied the game at 4-4, then a solo homer in the 7th to make a 6-4 game at the time, and is his second homer of the season.

Cleveland needs Hoskins to get going. They need his power to make up for the lack of offensive production from Jose Ramirez and Kyle Manzardo.
The Guardians bullpen was clutch tonight, besides Hunter Gaddis, who was terrible, with Sabrowski and Smith getting out of jams, and Smith getting the save, his 8th.
Cleveland is back at it Saturday at 4:05 PM with Slade Cecconi getting the start, who has just not been very good this season, struggling to get ahead in counts and with his command.
The Guardians are looking for their 3rd win in a row, and to win their first series since the 4 game series vs the Orioles.
